Founded in 2004, owner Tereapii Vahua Vakapora and her family create necklaces, bracelets and earrings made from seeds collected on Rarotonga and the outer islands. Apii’s daughter Kimberley, has a gift in creating the jewellery. Using dried kaka, puka and poepoe seeds, the beads are polished and coated with a sealant to retain their lustre, before being threaded onto rope.
Designer Rachel Mills was introduced to Roteek by her business mentor, Janet Brooker, who travels regularly to the Cook Islands to help small businesses flourish. Rachel saw an opportunity to promote the family-owned business on New Zealand’s shores.
Apii shares that “...each of these jewelleries tells a story of how my family works hard in collecting, creating and caring for each piece with love”.
